Post Holiday Groove: Moses, the Easter Bunny, And Taylor Swift!

After Christmas and Hanukah, the next big eating fest for Jews and Christians is Easter and Passover. Aside from the religious underpinnings of the holidays where Christians celebrate Christ’s resurrection and chocolate eggs, Jews celebrate their exodus from Egypt and do things with Matzah (like covering it in chocolate), that Moses never imagined, the one thing Judeo –Christian beliefs have in common is the heavy burden of guilt we bear.

For most of us this translates as “we can’t believe we ate all the food.” We feel guilty, fat, that we need to do penance for all this indulgence. And in our media saturated culture we now contend as well with photoshopped and unrealistic images of the perfect body.

Well, like the song says, we here at Rejuice are telling you to “Shake it off” !(And yes we just transitioned from the Bible to Taylor Swift!) Listen, we get it, we are an organic vegan juice bar, we are passionate about health.

And what we want to share is that cleanses, detox diets, they all need to begin in the mind/ the spirit. Or else you are just chasing some image that is illusory at best, emotionally damaging at its worst.

As mentioned in our post on a spiritual cleanse – we believe in the 80/20 rule. That you do not need to beat yourself up for indulging over a holiday. In fact, don't stress. Enjoy the great feeling of sharing a meal with your family and friends. This is what life is about - connecting to the people around you.

The #1 rule of good health is everything in moderation. And that goes for moderation as well.

We love that idea!

Be grateful for the time you spent, the food you are privileged to eat. And if you want to do something to get back in your groove – here are 3 easy suggestions:

Wake up and move – put on a song and shake it off (c’mon, you know you love her) Just get your heart pumping for 20 -30 minutes. Yoga is our favourite!

Eat more fruits and vegetables. Simple. They are good for you. Your body loves them.

Gratitude: Thank your body for being so amazing. Regardless of religion, your body is also your temple. The one you get to inhabit for a short time, so be kind to it. Instead of focusing on all the things you think it is not doing right – look at all it does for you.

Dana, one of our lovely juice staffers, recently sent us this quote:

Did you ever realize how much your body loves you? It’s always trying to keep you alive. It’s making sure you breathe while you sleep, stopping cuts from bleeding, fixing broken bones, finding ways to beat the illnesses that might get you. Your body literally loves you so much. It’s time you start loving it back.

Short periods of indulgence are not a problem. In fact, it is good to let go. You don’t need to cleanse away your guilt. Just go back to a well balanced diet, get proper rest, and shake, shake, shake that gorgeous body of yours!

Be healthy be happy be better be kinder be compassionate be mindful be peaceful be beautiful be yourself JUST be!

:) Shane! Thanks for reading. This Moses is strictly old school wrath – very little whimsy, not into sugar coating the unleavened bread experience!
